Ancient Cliff Paintings Are Found In The Zhuang Autonomous Region Of Guangxt. Some cliff paintings depicting the social customs of primitive Zhuang people (2nd Century, B.C.-A.D., 3rd Century) were discovered in Jingxi County of the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi in March, 1987. On a 10m long and 2m high stretch of rock, birds, a dragon, a phoenix, cattle, horses and men were painted or carved. Interestingly, two thirds of all the creatures depicted in this petroglyph are birds. The Zhuang are a minority nationality who live in the southern part of China. Ninety per cent of the Zhuang population, about 10 million people inhabit the Zhuang Autonomous Region of Guangxi. Since the first mural paintings portraying primitive Zhuang people were discovered in the Huashan Mountains in 1956, 60 other such spots including the March, 1987 discovery have been located in Guangxi. In 40 other counties of 12 provinces and autonomous regions. Especially in the border ethnic areas, several hundreds similar cliff paintings have been found.
