New Stone-Age Graveyard Yields Rich Finds. A huge, 6,000-year-old graveyard of the New Stone Age has been excavated in Longgangsi in Shaanxi Province's Nanzheng County on the upper reaches of the Hanjiang River, a main tributary of the Yangtze. Of the 454 tombs unearthed, 433 belonged to the Yangshao Culture. Over 2,000 burial objects were found. A dozen miniature jade spades, an imitation of the farming tools used by the primitive man are the first of their kind of the Neolithic Age discovered in China so far. According to research done by archaeologists, the graveyard and the relics unearthed belong to the Neolithic Culture of the Yellow River Basin, but some of the relics have the distinctive features of those found in the Yangtze River vally.
