A Set Of New National Art Treasures. The jadeite vase named ''Pastoral'' was carved on a piece of jadeite weighing 14.5 kilograms by the Beijing Jade Carving Works. Using the openwork technique, the artisan carved cucumbers, beans and a grasshopper on the precious stone by making use of its natural colors of white, green, purple and yellow. Though complicated in design, the work looks trus to life. Photo by Dai Jiming
