Neighbourhood Industry Develops In A Shanghai District. The Hungkou district in Shanghai has developed neighbourhood industry from scratch. At present, it has more than 30 neighbourhood factories, producing a wide range of daily-use articles as well as machines, instruments and meters and some other industrial products for industry and agriculture. The neighbourhood factories which sprang up in 1958 are mostly run by housewives and workers' dependents. There are now more than 300 such factories and workshops in the whole city whose gross industrial value is over 10 fold higher than a decade ago.
