The Naval Surface Vessels Institute of the Chinese People's Liberation Army in the Bohai port city of Dalian for training surface vessel commanders and technicians has turned out a large number of graduates since its founding in 1950. The institute now has an enrolment of more than 1,000 students. It has 5 departments: navigation, weaponry, missiles, telecommunications and radar and ocean mapping and over 100 laboratories.
