Gold lotus-shaped bowl with traced decorations. Covered all over by a ring-matted ground, the bowl is embossed with two layers of lotus petals, each bearing a traced design of either mandarin duck, parrot, deer or some other animal with floral scrolls. The bottom is incised with a composite flower design while a traced design of a flying bird and several rolling clouds decorate the space inside the ring-foot. An ink inscription of three characters inside the bowl reads: "nine and a half liang (ounces)". Tang Dynasty (A.D. 618-907). D. 13.5 cm. Unearthed in 1970 at Sian, Shensi Province.
