Phoenix headdress of the Empress of Wan Li. Apart from the profusion of inlaid pearls and precious stones, the headdress is further embellished with nine dragons woven with fine gold wires and nine phoenixes decorated with kingfisher feathers. Ming Dynasty (A.D. 1368-1644). H. 28 cm. Unearthed in 1958 from Ting Ling, tomb of the Ming Emperor Wan Li and his empresses, in Peking.
