Lisu People In Yunnan Province Celebrate Traditional Festival. "Daogan" festival is a traditional holiday of the Lisu minority nationality in southwest China's Yunnan Province with a history of more than 500 years. The festival which falls on February 8th of the lunar calendar was said to be introduced by the Lisus to commemorate a high-ranking official of the Ming Dynasty named Wang Ji and his soldiers who subdued the rebellion staged by a slave owner, with the support of the residents in the border area. Photos here document how the Lisu people jubilantly celebrated their annual "Daogan" festival at Guyong Commune in Tengchong County. There are 470,000 Lisus in China, of whom the overwhelming majority live in Nujiang Autonomous Zhou (Perfections) of Lisu nationality in northwest Yunnan.
