Ruan Chongwu, an engineer by profession and now a newly-elected Vice-Mayor of Shanghai, is on an inspection tour of the Baoshan Iron and Steel Complex under construction. Ruan graduated from the Moscow Motor Vehicle Engineering Institute in 1957. He has since worked as a technician and later Director of the Research Section of the Shenyang Casting Research Institute, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Material Institute of the First Ministry of Machine-Building and Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in the Pederal Republic of Germany.
