Tianjin Taps Geothermal Energy. The subterranean hot water resources are being exploited in a planned way in Tianjin, north China's biggest industrial city. Geothermal energy has been used in textile dyeing and printing, wood and food processing, greenhouse vegetable growing, fowl hatching, winter heating and indoor swimming pools, etc. thus saving coal, oil and electricity. It has been verified that there are three subterranean hot water areas covering 700 kilometers in Tianjin. 259 subterranean hot water wells with a temperature of above 30 degrees centigrade are now in use.
