Great Yangtze Stream Dammed At Gezhouba. Builders of China's a biggest multi-purpose water conservancy project on China's longest river of Yangtze succeeded in stemming the turbulent river on January 3 and 4. The Gezhouba Water Conservancy Project lies at the outlet of the Xiling Gorge (in Yaichang , Hubei province). One of the three scenic gorges along the Yangtze. In addition to two power stations with a total generating capacity of 2,715,000 kilowatts, the biggest in China today, the project also includes a water discharge gate, two shipping locks and a silt discharge gate which have been completed. The project will be used for generating electricity and navigation in 1981.
