Famous Nanchong Silk Of Sichuan. Famous for its lustre and glossiness Nanchong silk of Sichuan Province, which had been sent as tributes to the imperial court as early as the Tang Dyansty (618-907) was later looked upon as a treasure by the Japanese imperial court when it was exported to Japan in ancient times. It is now an important export item to many countries of the world. Nanchong City now boosts 46 silk mills turning out 200 varieties of silk. Of the 2,000 designs and colours, 35 have been given quality awards either in the country or in Sichuan Province. Nanchong silk was awarded a first prize for quality at the Panama international exposition in 1915.
