China Gathers Good Cotton Harvest. Cotton picking at Turfan County of the Sinkiang Uighur Autonomous Region in northwest China. The region gathered 10 per cent more cotton in 1973 than 1972 on the 153,000 hectares of cotton fields. The local species is known for its long fibre and good tensile strength.
