Large-mouth proto-porcelain tsun-vase. This greenish-brown glazed vase with its highfired kaolin paste and an exceedingly low absorbency shows many characteristic features of porcelain ware. It is the earliest proto-porcelain hitherto discovered in China. Shang Dynasty (c.16th -11th century B.C.). H. 28.2 cm. Unearthed in 1965 at Chengchow, Honan Province.
