Zhou Beixi, Monkey Painter. A painting showing monkeys grasping tails one after another to drink water from a stream on Mt. Emei, Sichuan Province, is the work of 68-year-old painter Zhou Beixi. Zhou Beixi is now a member of the People's Political Consultative Conference of Sichuan Province and Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Hechuan County. He had a natural bent for painting and calligraphy and especially liked to observe monkeys and paint them when he was a boy. Through hard practice he has mastered various kinds of skills in traditional Chinese painting. The monkeys in varying postures under his painting brush are well-received when they were exhibited in the United States, Japan and Hongkong.
