Hospital Of Tibetan Medicine In Tibet. The Hospital of Tibetan Medicine in Tibet Autonomous Region was set up in 1985. It covers an area of nearly 30,000 square metres and has more than 170 doctors. As the biggest institute of Tibetan medicine in China, it boasts a research institute, a school of Tibetan medicine and a pharmaceutical factory. Tibetan medicine with a history of 2,000 years is disseminated in the Tibetan-inhabited areas in Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan and Yunnan. It has an integrated theoretic system and rich practical experience and absorbs the essence of traditional Chinese medicine and medicine of India and Persia. The Four Volumes of Medical Dictionary, a famous book compiled by Tibetan medical expert Yutua Yundangonbo in the 8th century, has substantial content, including diagnosis, treatment, dissection, embryology, acupoints of the human body, pharmacology and medical utensils. It is a classic work of Tibetan medicine. Tibetan medicine is comprehensive. Its unique character is the combination of treatment and the collection and manufacture of drugs. A good doctor of Tibetan medicine is an able collector of drugs and a pharmacist.
