Age-Old Printing House For Buddhist Scripture. The Dege Woodblock Printing House for Buddhist Scripture is well known both in China and abroad. This printing house in Dege County, west Sichuan Province, was built in 1729. Now it has collected more than 200,000 pieces of wood engravings on Buddhist scripture, historical books and records, biographies of noted figures, Tibetan medicine, astronomy, lexicographical works, literature, music, the fine arts and architecture. They are important data for the study of Tibetan culture, history and religion. A number of carvings in Sanskrit are unique at home and abroad.
