Chinese Old Folks Live In Placid Mood. The old folks who live alone are shown doing morning exercises. This activity is promoted by the neighborhood service center of Kaifeng Street in Shanghai's Zhabei District. The service center was organized in February, 1980 by the neighborhood committee, retired workers and dependants of factory and office workers. It assumes the responsibility to take care of the 36 old folks in the neighborhood, who have no sons and daughters and other relatives living nearby. Photo by Zhang Yaozhi.
