China To Build Science Palace In Beijing. A group of gleaming white halls will rise in the northwestern suburbs of Beijing as the nation's first Science and Technology Palace, according to the China Association for Science and Technology. Picture shows a maquette of the palace. Covering a floor space of 66,000 square meters, the center will receive 10,000 visitors, mostly youngsters, a day, to popularize modern and advanced sciences and technical know-how among them. The palace will have a ten-storey service building, a short-term exhibition building and four pinwheel-shaped long-term exhibition halls. The first-phase construction of the palace will be completed at the end of 1985.
