Chinese Earth Scientist Surveys Course Of Yellow River On Foot. Yang Liankang, young Chinese earth scientist, will soon complete his survey of the entire course of the Yellow River on foot. Yang began surveying the river in Qumarleb County in Qinghai Province on July 19, 1981. He has walked down the river 4,700 kilometres through eight provinces to reach Zhengzhou in Henan Province on May 10, 1982. He has taken notes all the way, which run to 400,000 Chinese letters. He left Zhengzhou for the river outlet on May 13 to finish his mission of scientific significance. Yang becomes the first scientist in Chinese history to survey the entire course of the Yellow River on foot. Yang Liankang graduated from the department of geology and geography of Beijing University in 1961. He cherished a desire to survey the Yellow River even when he was a student.
