Third National Population Census In China. Preparations for the third national population census has been completed in China. Zero hour of July 1 will be the time for census. The aim of the census is to ascertain China's population and its distribution. The census will help in planning the people's material and cultural life and is a need of socialist modernization. 5 million census takers are required to do the work. They are drawn from government offices, enterprises, schools and army units and have gone through a period of training. China has bought eight computers from abroad for the work. In addition, the United Nations Fund for Population Activities has donated 21 computers. Now, 28 provinces, Municipalities and autonomous regions have set up computer stations, with the exception of Tibet. The first and second population census in China were carried out in 1953 and 1964.
