Li Guoqiao, Malaria Researcher. Associate Professor Li Guoqiao, who is deputy director of the Guangzhou Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine and head of its malaria research section, has broken new ground in the research of malaria after 18 years of hard work in the border region of Yunnan Province and the hilly area of Hainan Island. Li Guoqiao and his colleagues concentrated on the prevention and treatment of cerebral malaria which claims a high death rate. They have succeeded in reducing the death rate to below 10 per cent, much lower than the 17% world level.
