Soong Ching Ling, Honorary Chairman Of People's Republic Of China. Soong Ching Ling examining medicines and other materials collected by the China Welfare Fund to be shipped to the liberated areas under the control of the Chinese Communist Party in 1948. The China Welfare Fund, originally named the Chinese Defense League, was a people's organization initiated in June 1938 in Hongkong and led by Soong Ching Ling. When the organization was moved to Shanghai in November 1945, it was renamed the China Welfare Institute in August 1950.
