Chinese Surgeons Extract Cataract For Panda. Surgeons in Pingwu County, Sichuan Province, have successfully removed a cataract from the left eye of a 12 year-old female giant panda. The panda, named "Yingchun", was found in the wild in Pingwu, one of the main panda reserves, on November 1, and was on the verge of death. She had lost sight in her right eye while the cataract in her left eye blocked her sight completely. Doctors performed 8 different experimental operations on cataracts in the eyes of the two sheep and two dogs to find out the best method for the cataract extraction for the panda. "Yingchun" will see things within two metres when her sight is restored, said the doctors.
