Chengshan Cape--Easternmost Tip Of China. The Chengshan Cape on the Shandong Peninsula is the easternmost tip of the China's mainland. As part of Rongcheng County. Shandong Province, the cape is 15 kilometres long and 2.5 kilometres wide. Owing to its strategic importance, the Chengshan Cape witnessed many a historical event. More and more tourists are drawn to this scenic spot. Qinshihuang, the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221-207 B.C.), made three inspection tours of the Chengshan Cape. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the Chengshan Cape was much contested by all strategists. During the Sino-Japanese War of 1894, the Yellow Sea naval battle took place in the nearby waters of the cape. There is a stone tablet at Chengshan in memory of Deng Shichang, Captain of the Zhiyuan Warship, who fell in action during that battle.
