Home Of Coconuts On Hainan Island. Wenchang County on the sub-tropical Hainan Island abounds in coconuts. It gathers 15 million coconuts yearly, accounting for half of the total output of Hainan Island, Guangdong Province. According to historical data, Hainan started growing coconut trees early in the Han Dynasty more than 2,000 years ago. Now the processing of coconut products has become an important industry in Wenchang County.
