Self Reliance Yields Tremendous Successes. The giant Chiangtu water conservancy project in Kiangsu Province was built on China's own efforts. Its three big electric-operated pumping stations are able to irrigate 160,000 hectares of farmland and to drain off speedily excessive water from the farmland in the five counties and towns in north Kiangsu in case of waterlogging.
