The collectively-owned wood carving shop at Yujiang has 32 branch works in Jiangxi and Zhejiang Provinces. Its output value has increased at an average rate of 127.5 percent a year since 1979. Its wooden chests, Buddhist shrines, screens, coffee tables and jewelry boxes are known for fine quality and novel designs as well as exquisite xylography. The Buddhist shrines made by the shop have won high reputation in Japan. In 1982 and 1983, the products of the wood carving shop won "Hundred Flowers Award" for good quality in Jiangxi Province.
