Shanghai Dance School. The Shanghai Dance School is one of the two dance schools in China. Established in 1960, the school has since graduated 231 professional dancers for the country. Most of them have become famous dancers or choreographers and directors. Some of them have won prizes at international ballet competitions. The school has a ballet department and a Chinese national dance department, with a total enrolment of 161 students. The students, 10 to 12 years old, are chosen through very strict examinations. During the 6 years in school, they have to finish specialized courses of dancing and the curriculums of a middle school. The school's teachers and students also take part in cultural exchange with foreign countries.
