First Synchro Swim Competition Held In China. China held its first national synchro swim invitational competition in Beijing between August 5 and 7 . Participating in the competition were more than 50 swimmers from Beijing, Shanghai, Jiangsu, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Yunnan and Sichuan. The Beijing team took the team title. Zhang Ying of Beijing captured the singles title while Luo Xi and Chen Qian from Sichuan Won the pairs title. As a new sport, synchro swims were listed as an official competitive event in world swimming championships as from 1973. It was started even later in China, but the good performances of young Chinese swimmers at the national competition show that it will become a promising sport in China. A contest is in progress at China's first national synchro swim invitational competition held in Beijing between Aug. 5 and 7. 1983. Photo by Huang Jingda
