China Selects 10 Best Athletes Of 1983. Chinese highjumper zhu Jianhua proved his worth as the world's ace highjumper with 2.37m and 2.38m, whitewashing the world record twice on June 11 and September,1983 respectively. Zhu was born in Shanghai in 1963, and is 1.94m tall. He was sent to a sports school for training at the age of 10 by Hu Hongfei, coach of a spare-time sports school in Shanghai. He cleared a bar of 2.30m at the 4th Asian Track and Field Championships in Tokyo in June, 1981, breaking the (11-year-old Chinese national record of 2.29m set by his fellow countryman Ni Zhiqin in 1970.
