New Uniforms For PLA. Officers and men of the Chinese People's Liberation Army will wear new uniforms beginning May 1 this year. The new uniform is brownish green for the Army and dark blue for the Navy in winter but changes to white jackets and dark blue in summer, and for the Air Force, it consists of brownish green jackets and dark blue trousers. Officers and men will wear flat-topped military caps (women will retain their present headgear) and collar insignias and shoulder boards . The emblem on the cap will be changed from the present single red star to one with five stars and the two Chinese characters "August 1"(army founding day ) , surrounded by wheat ears and cog wheels.
