British Prime Minister Visits China To Sign Sino-British Declaration. The Joint Declaration of the Chinese and British Governments on the Hongkong Question was signed at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Dec. 19, 1984. Chairman Deng Xiaoping of the Central Advisory Commission of the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese President Li Xiannian attended the signing ceremony. Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang and British Prime Minister Mrs. Margaret Thatcher signed the joint declaration on behalf of their Governments respectively. Photo by Liu Shaoshan
