Soviet Fishing Fleets Sabotage Japanese Fishermen's Normal production. Recently the Soviet fishing fleets have continuously damaged Japanese fishermen's gear in Japan's nearby waters and threatened their normal production. Owing to the sabotage by the Soviet fishing fleets, many grounds off the coast of Choshi in Chiba Prefecture become "dead waters," Local Japanese fishermen drag out from the waters a large quantity of garbage such as discarded cans dumped by the Soviet fishing boats, instead of hauls of fish. This has aroused strong complaint among Japanese fisherman.
