Whangpoo River Bridge In Shanghai Opened To Traffic. The double-decker road and railway bridge, the first spanning the Whangpoo River in Shanghai, was successfully completed and opened to traffic. The achievement is attributed to the struggle to criticize Teng Hsiso-ping and beat back the Right deviationist attempt at reversing correct verdicts. Situated in Sungchiang County, the new bridge links the city proper with the Shanghai General Petro-chemical Works now under construction. The railway part of the bridge runs 3,048 metres and the 12-metre-wide road bridge 1,860 metres. It took only 22 months to finish the whole project, starting from August 1974. This set a new record in China's bridge construction speed.
