Tropical Plant Research Institute-A Treasure-House In Yunnan. Sitting in the dense forests of Xishuang Banna, the Yunnan Tropical Plant Research Institute under the Chinese Academy of Sciences boasts of over 133 hectares of experimental base with more than 2,000 species of economic and decorative plants in Asia, Africa, South America, Oceania as well as China's Guangxi and Guangdong and Yunnan provinces. Among the 300 staff members in the institute, over 100 are scientists and technicians. It has five research sections engaged in systematic botany, botanic chemistry, botanic introduction and domestication, experimental flora and botanic physiology. Scientific, researchers of the institute have made important achievements in helping the country explore the tropical and subtropical regions in South China.
